Description
Used by civilizations for thousands of years, this rare wood is named for the ancient forest that could once be found on Mount Lebanon. Now favoured by woodworkers for turning, furniture and its natural lustre, Cedar of Lebanon is most famous for its distinctive and long-lasting odour, which is often used in perfumes and is wonderful for infusing homes with a sweet, attractive scent. The red-brown heartwood features a medium to coarse texture and prominent grain, with characteristic knots or bark inclusions.
Working Properties
While the timber itself is very easy to work using hand tools, Cedar of Lebanon’s tricky knots and bark pockets can cause difficulties. Once worked however, the wood can be easily turned and glued, and tends to finish extremely well.
Physical Properties
Cedar of Lebanon tends to be easily workable precisely because it is soft. This also means that it bends very well but does lack shock resistance when finished.
